Tunisian Crochet

I am type of person who always curious to something new, unique and interesting. Few years ago I discover a crochet technique which was new to me. I was so curious about this technique, it called Tunisian Crochet, so I searched several information about it.

I got so many information and how to do the Tunisian Crochet but I did not have the hook to do that so I never get a change to practice. One time I went to a handcraft shop, I saw the Tunisian hook, I got so exciting and I purchased the hook without consulted anything i.e. the size of the hook and what type of yarn suitable for the particular hook that I chose. I just pick one hook and bought it.
When I got home I realized the size of the hook was too big while I did not have the suitable yarn for it, so I felt disappointing because I couldn't practice the Tunisian crochet technique. I put it aside.

According to Wikipedia, Tunisian Crochet is "Tunisian crochet, also known as Afghan crochet, is a type of crochet that uses an elongated hook, often with a stopper on the handle end, called an Afghan hook. It is sometimes considered to be a mixture of crocheting and knitting. As such, some techniques used in knitting are also applicable in Tunisian crochet. One example is the intarsia method."

.

Below are several symbols of Tunisian Crochet:

Note:
The above image, is some sample of Tunisian Crochet pattern symbols (source from several websites). Each stitch is divided into two symbols;  The below symbol is for the forward pass and the above symbol is for the return. For Example the vertical line of the "tss"  is symbol for forward pass which the result is exactly the same as vertical line. The return symbol is the weave line representing the yarn over pull through two loops motion.  The same thing with the horizontal line of the "tps" is symbol for forward pass which the result is same as horizontal lines, etc.

After trying several times how to do the Tunisian Crochet using the regular crochet hook, here several result:

This is Tunisian Simple Stitch (tss) - this is the basic techniques, please refer to Tunisian Crochet  to do this technique.

This is the first way I practice the Tunisian Crochet before I know how to do the tss (the basic techniques). I even do not know the type of this stitch. After searching several website about Tunisian Crochet, I found this technique called The Tunisian Mesh Stitch (Tms).

After  several times practice, I get more exciting to learn more about the Tunisian Crochet. Here another different pattern have tried.

Row 1: Ch number indicated in pattern (here I use 10 ch). Work Tunisian Foundation row.

Row 2: skip 1st vertical bar, insert hook under next vertical line, yo, pull through two loops, (yo, skip 1 vertical line, insert hook under next vertical line, yo, pull through two loops) repeat till end. Work Tunisian reverse pass.

Repeat Row 2 for pattern.

Now I am so happy that I can do Tunisian Crochet without have to use special hook for it.  I will try another more exciting Tunisian stitches. In Shaa Allah...
